Joel graduated high school in Clarksville, Arkansas, and joined the Army National Guard immediately thereafter. He spent 10 years in the Guard as an air traffic controller and Blackhawk helicopter pilot and was deployed twice to Iraq.
In between and training with the Army, Joel completed his bachelor’s degree in professional aeronautics with a minor in business administration from Henderson State University, where he met his wife, Lexie. They moved to Hot Springs after college to start a family. They have three sons, Leo, Cruz and Judah.
In his free time, Joel volunteers his time with the Gideons International and is the area director for South Central Arkansas. Joel also serves on the board of trustees at National Park College in Hot Springs.
