Through all the challenges, newfound opportunities, and highs and lows we’ve experienced during the last couple of years, it’s no surprise why we might be looking for a path through the wilderness.
So what can you expect in 2024?
1. The global economy is in transition in 2024 after a period of high inflation and rising interest rates. Consumer spending is shifting from goods to services, but low-income consumers are being squeezed by depleted savings, resumed student loan payments, and high credit card debt.
2. The stock market outlook is cautiously optimistic. With moderating inflation and interest rates, small and mid-size companies could present investment opportunities after the outperformance of big tech stocks in 2023.
3. The outlook for bonds is more positive due to the end of interest rate hikes. Bonds can return to their normal roles of diversification, liquidity, and income generation. Opportunities exist in Treasuries, mortgage-backed securities, and laddered bond portfolios.
